“What I call ‘The new Art’ is a compilation of several years of study to refine a technique that allows me to convey to the viewer – an emotion, a story, a journey.
I perceive the essentials of a concept and develop it with color and form, articulation a complexity that allows for alternate interpretation.
As the viewer becomes more involved, a personalized connection evolves.”
Metro Arts is pleased to highlight good friend Ron Durnavich as the Artist of the Month. Ron has been with Metro Arts for the past 2 years and been active in “Art Fence” a new program Metro Arts piloted last year with Artstop. Ron displayed his works on the fence across from the shops of Roosevelt along with several other artists at this fall event. The intent with Art Fence was to give Des Moines a very ‘New York and European feel’. The public is able to walk up and down the fence as they please and purchase some really great art. Art Fence will be taking place on September 6 this year again as part of Artstop.
A Des Moines native, Ron has been involved in art since as long as he can remember. In seventh grade he began taking classes at the Des Moines Art Center and continued pursuing his love of art at Drake and Grandview Universities. Ron attributes much of his influence from Jasper Johns, an American artist who led the artistic community away from Abstract Expressionism in the late 1950’s. He is famous for his paintings of maps, targets, and flags, which focused on the simplicity of some meanings behind paintings. Ron’s pieces allow for a personal connection and alternate interpretation for the viewer. He focuses on blending of colors and articulating various forms.
Ron is currently displaying his works at Pegasus Gallery in Valley Junction. Ron has recently been involved with Art Fest Midwest and The Art Store summer show and had a display at Barnes and Noble.
